The Vice President of Education, Culture, Equality and Social Welfare, Ana Gómez, highlighted this Tuesday how the organizers of the Sonseca Short Film Week knew how to “engage the world of cinema in your festival, but also to mobilize a large population, to many fans who love cinema”, managing, moreover, to “mobilize many creators of art and cinema” as evidenced by the 700 works that arrived at the festival and of which 16 will compete from October 1 to 9 in the city of Toledo.

Ana María Gómez said these words during her speech at the presentation ceremony of the VII edition of Sonseca Short Film Week, which he shared with the organizers of the festival, the president of the Association of Friends of Antonio Cerrillo, Isabel Sánchez; the mayor of Sonseca, Sergio Mora; and Cinema Central manager Harry.

Accompanies the projection of cuts a number of complementary activities such as concerts, conferences, workshops and a gastronomic route, which will transform “Sonseca during this week into the cultural center of the province of Toledo, as it has done this week”.

Furthermore, he thanked the organizers for continuing to “support everything related to culture, artin this case with cinema, and to do so with a clear commitment to quality and short films, which also generate emotions, convey messages and feelings to the public”.

“Culture, cinema, any type of artistic activity, what it does is to energize the populations and enrich this population and all those who visit it in many aspects”, assured the vice-president.

Support from the Provincial Council of Toledo

Gómez reiterated the support of the Provincial Council of Toledo for the Sonseca festival and culture in the province of Toledo and invited the people of Toledo to participate and enjoy the shorts and the city.

For his part, the Mayor of Sonseca expressed the satisfaction of the organizers to have recovered this year in all its dimensions the Sonseca Short Film Week, which recovers, with the screening of short films, all the parallel activities that accompany it.

It is a festival, says Sergio Mora, which involves the whole city “which attends massively both the screenings of short films at the Central Cinema, and the activities that are organized throughout the week”, in which “we combine the passion for cinema, music and gastronomy with the already famous tapas route with which we also want to celebrate this week of cinema”.

The president of the association behind Sonseca Short Film Week also welcomed the celebration of its seventh edition “in which we resume the program with all the activitiesafter the two previous editions marked by the pandemic”.

A very complete offer

Isabel Sánchez explained that there will be three activities at Casa de las Cadenas, with two concerts and a conference on the soundtracks of the Goyas and expressed his satisfaction with the presentation of 700 short films from all over the world, since it is an international festival, from which 16 finalists have been selected which will be screened throughout the week at the Central Cinema.

For Sánchez, it is a “very complete cultural offer which, since our association, has always aimed to that Sonseca is a cultural referencethat its name transcends the panorama and that we can all enjoy culture, cinema and tapas”.

The director of the central cinema gave details of the development of the festival which is among the 16 short films finalists, two of which are in English and will be subtitled.

shorts will be visible from Monday to Saturday in two batches of 7 shorts each and will be screened at 8:30 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday with another screening at 6:30 p.m.

For Harry, the “most important prize of the festival is the public prize, because at Sonseca there is an excessive passion for short filmspractically everyone goes to see the short films” and on the ballot given to them when they enter the room they can vote for their films.

Harry wanted to underline the level of the festival by quoting some of the protagonists of the short films in competition such as Aitana Sánchez Gijón, Luis Tosa, Daniel Guzmán or Pepe Sacristán or even the members of the professional jury composed of renowned professionals such as Mia Castro, Tomás Posi, Jon Olivares and Izcíar Atienza, and its president, Javier Quintos.

And among the 16 prizes of the festival, he announced the Human Values ​​Award which is for the short film “Intentando”, directed and performed by El Langui.
