Education is investing nearly 600,000 euros in work to reform and improve the IES…

CORDOBA, 20 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training, through the Andalusian Public Agency for Education, has begun work to reform and improve the sports field at the IES Galileo Galilei in Cordoba, in more than two interventions currently underway in this center for the modernization of the heating system and the installation of a bioclimatization system supported by renewable energies. These three actions represent a total investment in the IES Galileo Galilei of 595,961.98 euros.

This was indicated by the Junta de Andalucía in a note in which it detailed that the sports fields of the institute present different damages caused by the passage of time, such as small projections of vertical displacement of the ground and deterioration of the edges.

The works that are starting now, representing an investment of 29,749.98 euros (including project and works costs), will consist of removing these deteriorated elements and applying a paint primer for the tracks, in order to unify the surface appearance thereof.

As for the two other actions in progress at the IES Galileo Galilei, on the one hand, the modernization of the centre’s heating system is in progress, with an overall investment of 226,097.04 euros. The intervention will involve the renewal of the distribution system by pipes and the radiators.

On the other hand, work included in the bioclimatization and renewable energy program is being carried out with a total investment of 340,114.96 euros. This action consists of the installation of a bioclimatization system by adiabatic cooling with the support of photovoltaic solar energy, which means the improvement of thermal comfort in summer and the energy efficiency of the educational center.

Adiabatic cooling is an ecological air conditioning system, an alternative to conventional air conditioning, which manages to lower the interior temperature of classrooms thanks to the evaporation of water. Its main advantages are low electricity consumption (up to 80% less than air conditioning) and lower CO2 emissions.

Likewise, it works with the windows open and always uses fresh air, without recirculation, thus improving indoor air quality. Another of its characteristics is that it does not use coolants, does not dry out the environment and avoids sudden changes in temperature.

As for the photovoltaic solar panels, with an installation power of 15 kilowatts, in addition to reducing electricity costs for the center, they will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. The energy generated will be used for self-consumption, with the possibility of discharge into the network.

CORDOBA PROVINCE

In the province of Córdoba, 93 of these bioclimatization and photovoltaic actions are planned in educational centers with an overall budget estimated at 32 million euros, which are included in a program that reaches a total of 430 educational centers in Andalusia, with an investment of 140 million euros. The 93 installations of photovoltaic solar panels planned in Cordoba will mean an overall energy production of 2,600,187 kWh/year, which will prevent the emission into the atmosphere of more than 1,355 tons of greenhouse gases.

These three interventions at the IES Galileo Galilei in Cordoba, from which the more than 922 students enrolled at the center will benefit, are included in the Educational Infrastructure Plan of the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training, which is carried out through the Public Andalusian Education Agency.

The contracting of the works was carried out through the framework agreement launched by the Andalusian Public Agency for Education in order to speed up the deadlines for awarding the works, thus reducing the time for launching and execution. Likewise, they have European funding through the React-EU funds under the Feder de Andalucía 2014-2020 Operational Program, as part of the European Union’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
