Lanzarote residents will be able to get to work by bus for free

The Cabildo of Lanzarote promotes the use of intercity public transport through voucher discounts for frequent users in order to cope with the current scenario of high energy and fuel prices, which particularly affect the daily mobility of citizens.

For the President of the Cabildo, Maria Dolores Corujo“the situation described justifies the increase public assistance to the user of public transport like never beforeby contributing the economic resources of the island institution to those coming from the State and the Government of the Canary Islands”.

For his part, the Minister of Transport, Mark Bergazexplains that this initiative “allows continue to face situations of social and economic vulnerability and thus promote the use of interurban public transport by bus”. “Similarly, we encourage the transition to a safer, more reliable, comfortable, economical and sustainable means of transport than the private vehicle, moving closer and closer to a more eco-sustainable model”, adds the adviser.

With these measures, “we are helping citizens to use public transport, which results in a reduction of the carbon footprint and a further step towards sustainability”, details Bergaz.

Discounts will be in effect between September 1 and December 31, 2022

For this, the Cabildo of Lanzarote has joined the measures implemented by the state government to reduce the amount of intercity transport obligations. Thus, the services will have a discount of 50% extra for users of Lanzarote resident vouchers; pensioner and special pensioner; big family; unemployed; a young man; disability and student. In the case of Canarian resident bonus card, will reduce its price from 20 to 10 euros per month with unlimited travel.

These discounts will happen automatically from September 1 to December 31, 2022, with specific terms of use tailored to the established bonus period. To access these discounts, the user will not have to perform any type of procedure, but this will be activated on September 1.

Free bonuses for workers

In addition to this, the Island Corporation has launched a complementary measureso that it has extended up to 100% the bonus of the Frequent Use Canarian Resident Bonus for professional reasons, so that it can be obtained for free.

Everyone can benefit from this measure. employed or self-employed workers, who are residents. For this, users who already have the Canarian resident voucher must request validation, attaching the responsible declaration with which it is proven that they meet the conditions to access the free voucher.

In the case of the Canarian resident bonus card, the price is reduced to 10 euros with unlimited monthly journeys

The beneficiary of this additional bonus will be obliged to make frequent use of the title, having to perform at least 20 trips for each of September, October, November and December 2022 or, failing that, at least 80 trips in total in the period between September 1 and December 31, 2022 inclusive.

The new frequently used bonus is unipersonal and non-transferable, valid for unlimited journeys between any origin and destination in regular Lanzarote intercity passenger transport. Failure to comply with the beneficiary’s requirements could result in the reimbursement of the full amount of the additional premium received, the total amount of which is 40 euros for the full period (1 September to 31 December) or 10 euros per month.

How to get the bonus?

To obtain the free pass for frequent travelers, it is necessary to request it preferably on the website of the Arrecife Bus company or on the Arrecife bus station from this Friday, August 26with presentation of the request, although the bonds can only be withdrawn on the 30th.
