More than 30 works will be screened in the X Festival of Short Films Against Gender Violence organized by the Provincial Council of Jaén, which started this Wednesday.
The Deputy for Equality, Rocío Zamora, inaugurated this competition which will end next Saturday, November 12, with the award ceremony for the winning films of this edition, included in the commemorative program “I choose Jaén.10 years of the Day of the province”, according to what the provincial entity transferred in a press release.
The short films that will be exhibited throughout this festival have been selected from among the 212 works that have been presented this year by 111 male and 102 female directors from fourteen different countries, including, in addition to Spain, Portugal, France , Argentina, Mexico, Russia, the United States or Iran.
“It is one of the most important activities of the acts organized by the Diputación de Jaén in terms of raising awareness against gender violence”, highlighted Zamora, who recalled that in these ten editions “more than 2 300 short films were received, more than 170 of which participated in the official section of this festival”.
The screening days for this competition began this afternoon and will take place tomorrow, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 November, at the Provincial Library of Jaén, starting at 6:30 p.m.
In different sessions, the works selected in this edition will be exhibited, which in turn have been divided into three sections -the official one, in which you can see those who will compete for the prizes of this competition, the out-of-competition one and the of “Jaén in brief”, in which the public will be able to see short films made by the inhabitants of Jaén.
The screenings will be complemented by the realization on Saturday November 12 of the workshop entitled “New models of women in cinema and in television series: 10 years of male gaze”, which will be given by María José Jiménez, from the Andalusian Association of Audiovisual Women (AAMMA).
It will also be on Saturday, at 8:00 p.m., when this festival ends at the Darymelia Theater in Jaén, with a gala in which the names of the winning works will be announced and the various prizes established in this edition will be awarded. , endowed with a total of 10,000 euros.
The short film that wins the first prize will receive 3,000 euros, while 2,000 euros will be awarded to the film awarded the second prize. In addition, the best director will receive 2,000 euros and there will be two special prizes, each endowed with 1,500 euros, for the best short film by Jaenícola and the jury prize. Finally, the Canal Sur Radio and Television prize will also be awarded to Andalusian audiovisual creation, which will allow the award-winning short film to be broadcast on the regional channel.
The works that will compete for the various prizes have been selected by a jury chaired by the deputy for equality, Rocío Zamora, and composed of the deputy for youth, Pilar Lara, the actress Cristina Rodríguez, Davinia Burgos, representative of the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA), visual artist and member of AAMMA, Eva Tirado, RTVA delegate in Jaén, Pilar Mariscal, journalists Francisca Cross and Marta Susana Robles, director of the Festival of the short film, Alicia Pardina, and the deputy director of the area of equality and social welfare of the Diputación, Celestina Martínez.
After the celebration of this festival, the winning short films will be screened in the coming months throughout the province, with the aim of “making the winning works accessible to all citizens as an audiovisual tool for the prevention and awareness of gender violence. , in particular, among young people”, concluded the deputy for Equality.
