The City Council celebrates the School Film Contest to bring cinema closer to girls and boys and reward the best works of Galician youth

The program includes three workshops, two screenings and a final gala on Thursday 24 at the Auditorium / In total, 79 films made by students from the 4 Galician provinces compete for the awards

The City Council of Ourense, from the Ministry of Education, will celebrate the International School Film Competition – OUFF School 2022, with a program of activities aimed at bringing cinema closer to the school public and rewarding the artistic talent of Galician youth .

This edition, which began in April, brought together more than 2,000 Galician schoolchildren. A total of 79 films presented by educational centers in the 4 Galician provinces are competing for the prizes, which will be awarded at a final gala to be held on Thursday, October 27.

Activities program

First meeting of the jury to deliberate on the winning works of the Film Competition. The jury is made up of:

  • Nora Sola, president of the OUFF Escola jury, former director of the OUFF International Film Festival, journalist and businesswoman.
  • César Silva, director of programming at OUFF,
  • Fernando González, actor, musician, composer and presenter,
  • Manoli Maseda, provincial coordinator of the language revitalization teams of the province of Ourense
  • Maria Leis, coordinator of linguistic revitalization teams at the General Secretariat for Language Policy.

Competition for educational centers

This International School Film Competition is organized by the Department of Education of the Municipality of Ourense in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Linguistic Policy and is aimed at public and private non-university educational centers in Galicia, as well as at those located outside Galicia. Galicia which has subjects in the Galician language.

The competition dates back to 2009 and was born with the aim of promoting the use of the Galician language among young people, knowing their vision of their socio-cultural environment and promoting audiovisual creativity and teamwork, in an attractive language for students, which helps to generate critical thinking. The event also aims to promote the use of information and communication technologies in schools and to create a reference space for the dissemination of audiovisuals made in class. The initiative is part of the European directive on media education, which aims to train young people in the knowledge and evaluation of audiovisual media.

This 2022 edition started in April and the reception of films ended on July 8. The important participation stands out, despite the pause caused by the pandemic, translated by the reception of 79 films from the centers of the 4 Galician provinces, where more than 2000 schoolchildren participated, highlighting in this case the increase in the participation of the centers of ‘Ourense.
