Torrijos nurses win top prize at XIX Toledo Primary Care Awards – Toledo News

The research work “Community intervention for the appropriate use of technologies in adolescents in a basic health area” obtained the prize for the best work presented at the XIX Toledo Primary Care Research Awards, held in Toledo.

The winning research work was carried out by professionals from the Torrijos Health Center.

Esther Moreno and Daniel Susín, nurses; and by Soledad Gómez-Escalonilla, nurse and tutor of the Family and Community Nursing specialty of this health center, the Council said in a press release.

This community intervention is part of the set of strategies aimed at promoting health in the base health area of ​​Torrijos initiated in collaboration with the different institutions, social agents and the population in general in the activities of prevention and awareness of derivative risks.

The closing ceremony and the awards ceremony were chaired by the general manager of Toledo Primary Care, Javier Rodríguez Alcalá; with the provincial health delegate of Toledo, Rocío Rodríguez, and the second vice-president of the Provincial Council of Toledo, Ana María Gómez, as well as the secretary general of the College of Physicians of Toledo, Raúl Calvo.

During his speech, the Director General of Toledo Primary Care, Javier Rodríguez Alcalá, congratulated the winners and thanked the health professionals of Toledo Primary Care for their involvement year after year in the research work.

Likewise, Rodríguez Alcalá highlighted the regional government’s commitment to research as a strategic line and as one of the main drivers for improving the quality of care in the field of primary care.


In addition to the first prize, the jury awarded two second prizes, one of them for the best research project entitled “Efficacy of biofeedback in the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunctions in postpartum women”, developed by the physiotherapist of the Camarena Health Center, Cristina Gallego, and by the professor of the Faculty of Physiotherapy and Nursing of Toledo (UCLM), Asunción Ferri.

And, on the other hand, a second prize was awarded to the best research work under the title “Impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the mental health of the adult population of a basic health area of ​​Toledo”, directed by nurse Daniel Susín, and EIR tutor and nurse, Soledad Gómez-Escalonilla, both from the Torrijos Health Center; as well as by the professor of the Faculty of Physiotherapy and Nursing of Toledo (UCLM), María Idoia Ugarte.

For this edition, convened by the Toledo Primary Care Management to promote research among professionals in this health field, a total of eight articles were presented, five of which correspond to research projects and three They are studies with results.

Since the competition was launched in 1998, more than 150 research papers have been submitted for these awards, confirming the commitment of the regional government, Toledo’s primary care management and primary care professionals to promote the research in this area of ​​health.

In this new edition, family medicine and nursing professionals from various core health areas, residents from family and community medicine and nursing specialties, as well as physiotherapists and primary care management professionals from Toledo participated.

In accordance with the transversality of primary care, the work presented addressed various issues and pathologies such as antihypertensive drug treatment, community-level actions for the prevention of addictions and the promotion of health in the adolescent population, the effectiveness of drugs used for smoking cessation or the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on mental health, among others.

As usual, the contest is sponsored by the Toledo Primary Care Authority, the Toledo Provincial Council, and the official Toledo Colleges of Physicians and Nursing; in addition to the collaboration of scientific medical societies -Castilian-Manchaegan Society of Family and Community Medicine, Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians of Castilla-La Mancha, Spanish Society of General and Family Physicians of Castilla-La Mancha and the Association Spanish Primary Physicians Care Pediatrics of Castilla-La Mancha- and the Castilian-Manchega Association of Community Nursing.
